Outside the Ruffin Building in Downtown Wichita

Celebrate Community Through Sidewalk Art

Join Downtown Wichita for the Douglas Avenue Chalk Art Contest — a vibrant, family-friendly event that brings color, creativity, and community stories to life, one square at a time. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or chalk enthusiast, we invite you to turn the sidewalk into your canvas during this special First Friday Fest celebration.

This year’s theme — “Heartland Stories” — invites artists to explore the spirit of the Midwest: resilience, kindness, quiet strength, and creative connection. Your artwork can be literal or abstract, deeply personal or widely relatable. Let your chalk tell a story rooted in place and purpose.
