After 5 years of consistent ICT Chalk Talks programming, it is time to retire the boxes of chalk and introduce a new community-focused project to the face of the Calwell Murdock building.
Downtown Wichita is seeking artwork and mural proposals for three panels, one that will serve as the fresh and new background and the other two as temporary vinyl mini-murals. The two mini murals will rotate one to two times a year. Six artists will be selected and compensated for their work.
The deadline for submissions will be Friday, October 21, 11:59 p.m. CST
We are seeking any 2D or 3D artwork that can be utilized as vinyl-printed murals. There will be two mini murals that will be up temporarily and rotated every 6-12 months over a 2-year period beginning in Fall 2022. Digital artists, painters, photographers, graphic designers, etc are all welcome to apply. Existing work is accepted if created in or after the year 2019.
Artists for the mini murals will receive $1,250 for the use of their image on a vinyl-printed mural. Each artist will retain ownership of the physical artwork as well as the image.
Eligibility: the mini murals project is open to all visual artists and teams who are legal residents of the United States and who currently live and work in the states of Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma and are at least 18 years of age.
We are seeking mural proposals for the background portion of the project. The proposals should focus on bold and engaging patterns and designs that will serve as a backdrop for displaying the rotating mini-murals.
Background mural requirements include:
- Design for the overall background pattern
- Design for the center of the panel to include the words "Caldwell Murals" with an area for additional information to be added
- Installation/painting of background mural elements; materials must be graded for outdoor use and suitable for long-term outdoor exposure with low maintenance requirements
- Selected artist(s) must complete the mural during the month of November in coordination with Downtown Wichita
The artist(s) for the background mural will receive a stipend of $10,500 for all phases of the project. the artist will retain ownership of the artwork image.
Eligibility: The background mural portion of the project is open to visual artists who are legal residents of the United States and who currently live and work in the state of Kansas and are at least 18 years of age.
