Event Description: Shirley Smith was born in Wichita in 1929.  She lived and worked in New York City from 1952, until her death.   The works on display in this show are from her estate and span her whole career of over 30 years as a working artist.  Shirley Smith was featured in many important group shows as well as solo exhibits. Her painting “Greenspace” was purchased by the Whitney Museum of Art in 1971. She won the prestigious American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Award, along with world-renowned artist Chuck Close, in 1991. 
Shirley had a retrospective show at the Beach Museum of Art in 1999.
