2025 Downtown Clean-Up: A Rainy Day Full of Sunshine
By Emily Barnwell
Despite a rainy forecast — and a few good soakings throughout the morning — the Wichita spirit shone bright during the 2025 Downtown Clean-Up on Saturday, April 26.
Nearly 200 volunteers (176 to be exact) turned out to help keep downtown looking its best, braving the elements with ponchos and donut-fueled enthusiasm. Together, volunteers collected an impressive 123 bags of litter, swept 28 blocks of sidewalks, and tackled graffiti removal, light pole painting and beautification efforts under the underpasses.
The day's work culminated in a well-deserved lunch at Naftzger Park, generously provided by Evergy and the Wichita Wagonmasters. Volunteers also received complimentary T-shirts, courtesy of The Car Park, as a token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions.
“Wichitans are a hearty people, with so much love for downtown. It was inspiring to see our community come together, determined to make a difference, rain or shine,” said Downtown Wichita Executive Director Heather Schroeder.
A special thank you to every volunteer who contributed their time and energy to make downtown Wichita a cleaner, more vibrant place.
