Get Outside and Get Festive This April in #DowntownWichita
Spring has officially arrived in Wichita, and there’s no better place to enjoy the sunshine than downtown. From vibrant markets and tulip-filled gardens to outdoor movies and community celebrations, April is packed with events that highlight the best of the city. Here’s your guide to getting outside and getting festive this month:
Old Town Farm & Art Market: Opening Day – April 5
Start your Saturdays with the beloved Old Town Farm & Art Market, opening April 5 and running through Dec. 20. Set against a backdrop of brick-lined streets and historic limestone buildings, this weekly event is a staple of the downtown community.
Nearly 100 vendors will fill Farm & Art Market Plaza and Mosley Street, which will be closed to traffic. Shoppers will find everything from handcrafted soap and jewelry to kettle corn, specialty pasta and fresh coffee. Local food trucks will also be on-site each week.
When: April-October, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., then November-December, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Closed Nov. 29th - Thanksgiving weekend)
Celebrate the season in full color at Botanica's Tulip Festival, featuring more than 70,000 tulips across 100 stunning varieties. This annual event is a springtime must for families, gardeners and anyone who loves a good photo op.
Activities include:
Free photos with the Easter Bunny from Lamphouse Photos.
DIY flower crowns, painting, ribbon dancing and lawn games.
A plant sale and live music.
Food from Urban Skillet, Funky Monkey Munchies and The Artichoke (subject to change).
A performance by Wichita Children’s Theater on April 5.
Pack a blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars at RiverFlix, a free outdoor film series at the Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place. Opening night will feature "Finding Dory" and plenty of family-friendly fun.
Each Friday through Oct. 17 (excluding July 4 and Oct. 3), families can enjoy classic films, food trucks and concessions from Snack Lab.
Event details:
Seating is turf only — bring blankets or cushions (no lawn chairs or strollers allowed in the main seating area).
Food and drinks are allowed (no glass or alcohol).
Free parking is available at Exploration Place.
Restrooms are accessible inside the museum.
Gates open at 6 p.m., with movies starting at sunset.

Give back to the community during the Downtown Wichita Clean-Up—a volunteer-powered event that brings people together to keep the heart of the city looking its best. Volunteers from across Wichita will team up to tackle a variety of tasks, including painting, landscaping, graffiti removal and trash pickup. Join the fun!
Wichita’s favorite outdoor market is back for its fifth season! Shop & Grub is a monthly event bringing together more than 40 local and regional vendors for a day of shopping, food and fun.
Explore unique finds including vintage clothing, handcrafted jewelry, home goods and local art — plus food trucks and occasional live music.
When: April 27, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (monthly through September, with times changing from spring, summer and fall markets).
Join the only urban ride and walk that showcases Wichita’s neighborhoods, attractions, artwork and architecture. Tour de Wichita benefits Bike Walk Wichita and Great Plains Diabetes and offers multiple ways to participate — from a 15-mile ride to a scenic family walk.
The event concludes with a party at Brick & Mortar, featuring live music, activities for all ages and food and beverages.
