Curated by Paul Chaat Smith (Comanche) and Cécile R. Ganteaume, the exhibit uncovers the many ways American Indian images, names, and stories have been part of the nations identity since before the country began. Americans uses historical photographs and objects representative of those in the Smithsonian's collection to tell their stories.
Visitors to Americans at the Indian Museum have the opportunity to experience a unique local exhibition and programming. Events themed around the exhibit include a Bosin Society VIP preview, a conceptual redesign of Wichita Norths mascot led by Native artist Taiomah Rutledge, local photographer Aaron Patton will present his American Portrait project, a youth media and zine workshop with Daniel Pewewardy, and a closing reception featuring storytelling, live music and spoken word performances.
This Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition is presented by Humanities Kansas.
