Downtown Wichita Shines After Spring Clean-Up Effort

Downtown Wichita is looking even more welcoming thanks to the fantastic efforts of volunteers who came together for the 2026 Downtown Spring Clean-Up on April 25.

In total, volunteers made a big impact across the core:

  • 80 volunteers participated.
  • 152 bags of trash collected from Main to Washington Streets.
  • 16 blocks of curbing and underpass walls painted.
  • 29 plants planted at Rotary Centennial Plaza (2nd & St. Francis).
  • 165 bags of mulch were spread in landscaped beds at Rotary Centennial Plaza and in parking lot landscaping along North Mead between 1st and 2nd Streets.

These improvements help create a more vibrant and inviting experience for everyone who lives, works and visits downtown.

And, of course, no volunteer day is complete without a little fuel:

  • 23 large pizzas and three trays of salad were enjoyed.

This effort wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the event’s sponsors, Evergy and Professional Engineering Consultants.

A special thank you to the City of Wichita teams who helped make the day a success:

  • Public Works and Utilities Department’s Street Maintenance Team for guiding volunteers on painting tasks.
  • Park and Recreation Department for supplying mulch for downtown planting beds.

Thank you to our volunteers!
