Unveiling the Findings

At WDDC it is absolutely our goal to involve as many businesses, organizations and individuals in the process of creating a vibrant, growing downtown. We invite you to engage in the process through public meetings and by following our progress in the press.

Public Meetings

June 14th, 2010 was the unveiling of the Draft Master Plan by Goody Clancy.

The Downtown Master Plan Team has been researching, analyzing the market, listening to the community and incorporating public feedback since November. The Goody Clancy planning team presented a draft master plan aimed to shape a strong future for downtown and the region. Presentation elements included:

  • Why downtown has entered a new era of opportunity
  • Illustrations showing the intensity of activity, development and character possible in downtown
  • Strategies for achieving the vision; possible principal agendas and resources available

On Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 three public workshops with the planning team were held at the Bank of America Theatre, 100 N. Broadway. Each workshop included a summary presentation of strategies in certain focus areas and then a questions and ideas session. Click each theme to download the presentation.

1. Enabling Downtown Development, 8:00 - 9:30 A.M. Strategy topics include:

  • Setting criteria for use of public/private development incentives
  • Introducing parking in strategic places to promote development
  • Connecting property owners and developers with the information and expertise they need to have success with downtown development
  • Bringing empty storefronts to life

2. Creating Transportation Choices, 3:30 - 5:00 P.M. Strategy topics include:

  • Making it easier to find destinations and parking
  • Enabling safe, convenient and interesting walking among destinations
  • Transforming downtown transit into an attractive resource for everyone
  • Creating a biking network

3. Creating Unique Downtown Places, 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. Strategy topics include:

  • Reinforcing centers of arts, culture, sports and education
  • Telling downtown’s stories through its public art and activities
  • Improving the facilities, use and care of downtown parks and sidewalks
  • Setting building design standards that serve everyone through a higher level of quality

 

On April 28, 2010, members of the public gathered to hear Goody Clancy present the Downtown Master Plan Draft Vision Concepts.  In addition to the presentation, the community was asked to do two exercises that helped the team to find out what the community wants for the future of Downtown.

 

On February 27, 2010, the Downtown Master Plan Charrette was an opportunity for the community to come together and take a hands-on approach to the Master Plan.  Participants were presented with more information before breaking into groups to help come up with ideas.  The presentations can be found below:
